Maine Fiber Company and F6 Networks Establish Interconnection Point in Fibre Centre

Continuous dark fiber between Boston and Moncton is now available for connectivity to Fibre Centre in Atlantic Canada

Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada - April 27, 2015 – Maine Fiber Company and F6 Networks are proud to announce the availability of dark fiber service to network operators located within Fibre Centre. Together the companies will leverage their respective capabilities to create a more robust international network interconnection offering.

Carriers, content and enterprise network operators now have access to long haul dark fiber in a network-neutral colocation environment. This enables these networks to take more control of their operations by building diversity and reducing latency as well as transport and transit costs between the US and Canada.

Maine Fiber Company (MFC), based in Portland, ME, established the unique long haul dark fiber route between Boston and the Canadian border in 2012. Through an agreement with F6 Networks in Fredericton, NB, the route has been extended to Fibre Centre in Moncton and will soon reach as far as Halifax, Nova Scotia. The end-to-end fiber network is engineered to support long haul traffic and is operated on an open-access basis.

Fibre Centre was created to provide an important and strategic access point to the numerous fiber-based submarine and terrestrial carrier networks that pass through the Province of New Brunswick as the hub of Atlantic Canada. This announcement with MFC and F6 is consistent with the mission and an important step towards opening up the region.

Together the companies are committed to providing the region with reliable and scalable neutral colocation, interconnection and dark fiber services. By creating a neutral physical interconnection environment with access to the extensive fiber network created by MFC and F6, all network operators are able to take advantage of these critical network elements.
